1.Project overview

Recently, the 5MW/20MWh water-based organic liquid flow energy storage system tailored by FGI for customers, along with the 5MW step-up integrated machine, was successfully connected to the grid in Ordos, Inner Mongolia for the first time! This project has received the approval document for the independent new energy storage system's complete startup and trial operation from the Inner Mongolia Electric Power Regulation Company. It not only smoothly connected to the Inner Mongolia electricity spot market, but has also officially entered the commercial operation stage, marking that this energy storage project has entered the practical application and operation stage.

This project combines a 195MW lithium iron phosphate battery with a 5MW aqueous organic liquid flow battery, creating a grid-side independent energy storage system with a total capacity of 200MW/800MWh for the Inner Mongolia power grid. It is worth noting that the aqueous organic liquid flow battery in this project achieved the world's first megawatt-level application, which holds significant milestone importance in the development of the industry.

2.Characteristics of the system solution

The 5MW voltage boosting unit in this project adopts a modular combination design. It is composed of two 2.5MW voltage boosting units working together to form a stable and efficient power output unit. To ensure the reliable startup of the water-based organic liquid flow battery, each 2.5MW voltage boosting unit is equipped with a set of 100kW DC/DC equipment specifically for the 0V activation stage of the liquid flow battery. Through precise voltage regulation, it ensures that the battery system smoothly transitions from the initial state to the working mode, providing a solid foundation for the efficient operation of the entire energy storage system.

FGI fully leverages its technical advantages in power electronics and combines the characteristics of liquid flow energy storage. It has developed a system solution specifically targeting the storage characteristics of aqueous liquid flow batteries, featuring the following characteristics:

Customers can select various 0V activation methods based on the characteristics of their own flow batteries, making the regeneration of flow batteries simpler and more convenient.

The FGI dedicated PCS for flow batteries can be perfectly matched with the flow battery BMS, and the MW-level application can achieve successful one-time grid connection.

The excellent heat dissipation design can ensure no reduction in capacity at 45 degrees Celsius ambient temperature, and it is not afraid of extreme environments such as sandstorms, high temperatures, and severe cold.

The flow battery can support 20,000 deep discharge cycles, with a design service life of up to 25 years, which can effectively reduce the maintenance costs and replacement frequency for customers.

5.Project value and significance

After the project goes into production, it will significantly enhance the capacity of the surrounding areas to consume new energy and effectively alleviate the pressure of new energy power transmission. At the same time, it can enhance the flexibility of power grid regulation, improve the reliability of regional power grid power supply, and build a solid defense line for the safe and stable operation of the power grid.
