Against the backdrop of China’s foresighted strategic plans for fusion energy in its national 15th Five-Year Plan, innovation and industrialization in fusion technology are accelerating. In response to national priorities and to deepen industrial cooperation in advancing the clean energy transition, the 2026 Fusion Energy Technology and Industry Conference was held successfully in Hefei, Anhui, on January 16, 2026. The conference, co-organized by the Anhui Fusion Energy Industry Consortium and multiple leading institutions, aimed to establish a high-level platform for dialogue and collaboration, bringing together diverse stakeholders to jointly chart the future of fusion energy.
As a company with years of expertise and widely recognized technical strength in fusion energy, FGI received an honorable invitation to attend the event. During the ceremony, FGI formally accepted membership into the Fusion Energy Industry Consortium. This milestone reflects the industry’s high recognition of FGI’s long-term commitment and outstanding contributions in the fusion field. It also signals that the company will now play a larger role on a broader collaborative industrial platform.
Rooted in the “Artificial Sun,” with Nationally Certified Technical Expertise
FGI’s involvement in fusion energy began with its steadfast support for major national scientific projects. The company successfully developed and delivered the fast-control power supply system for EAST—the Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak. This power supply serves as a core component for the high-power operation of the “artificial sun,” featuring advanced capabilities such as high-power output, rapid current tracking, and four-quadrant operation. Its reliability, flexibility, and technological sophistication lead the industry.
The success of this project not only strongly supported several major experimental breakthroughs of the EAST device but also demonstrated FGI’s deep expertise and strong innovative capacity in high-end specialized power supplies and high-power power electronics conversion.
Joining Forces to Embark on a New Journey in Fusion Energy
For FGI, formally joining the Fusion Energy Industry Consortium marks a fresh beginning. As a key vehicle for collaborative innovation, the Consortium gathers core players from across the entire fusion industry chain. Through this membership, FGI will further integrate into the national strategic ecosystem for fusion energy development, building closer ties with top research institutes and industry partners.
Looking ahead, FGI will continue adhering to an innovation-driven philosophy. The company plans to apply the cutting-edge technologies, engineering experience, and reliability design principles gained from fusion projects to broader fusion energy research and, eventually, to energy conversion and power control systems in future fusion power plants. FGI looks forward to deepening cooperation with all members of the Consortium. Together, they aim to tackle key technical challenges, advance fusion energy from experiment to application, and contribute to national energy security and the achievement of China’s dual-carbon goals.
