FGI Static Var Generator(SVG) in Zimbabwe chromite smelting site successful operation case

1.Project background

A few days ago, Zimbabwe WEL MINING Smelting Co., Ltd. put a set of FGI Static Var Generator(SVG) device into smooth use, the company has 4 sets of units put into use, now all units are in a stable state, to solve the power supply quality problems played an important role in ensuring the safe and stable operation of the unit.

WEL MINING Smelting Company is a Sino-foreign joint venture in Gweru, Zimbabwe. Relying on local chromite resources, it mainly produces high-quality high-carbon chromite and exports it to Europe.

In 2007, WEL MINING opened a new 3600 KVA blast furnace, followed by Blast furnaces No. 2 and No. 3, which increased the company's monthly capacity from 550 tonnes to 2,500 tonnes.

2.FGI scheme

Electric arc furnace steelmaking has obvious advantages in environmental protection, investment and efficiency, but problems such as low power factor, harmonic pollution and three-phase asymmetry in its operation seriously threaten the safety and stable operation of the power grid. In order to solve these problems, WEL MINING has equipped FGI Static Var Generator(SVG) products.
