As environmental protection requirements continue to rise, desulfurization technology finds increasingly widespread use in industrial fields. Desulfurization fans serve as key equipment in desulfurization systems. Their performance and development play a crucial role in achieving efficient desulfurization and reducing pollutant emissions. Early desulfurization fan technology was relatively simple, with lower performance and efficiency. Moreover, when high-power motors used direct starting, they generated significant current surges. These surges could impact the power grid and also create risks of shutting down other loads. Frequent starts during operation greatly shortened motor service life. A certain overseas electrolytic aluminum customer currently uses traditional starting for its desulfurization fans. The starting current reaches 5–8 times the motor's rated current, severely lowering grid voltage and posing shutdown risks for other loads. The customer now requires a frequency converter capable of soft starting for two 2500 kW motors.
Implementation Plan
Based on customer needs, we selected the FD5000 series high-voltage frequency converter, model FD5000-10-2500F-2A, to match the customer’s desulfurization fan.
1. The system adopts speed sensorless vector control, offering high control accuracy, fast dynamic response, and high torque output at low frequencies.
2. An automatic bypass cabinet physically protects the frequency converter. The system also features master-slave synchronization and low-frequency compensation functions, achieving power balance and stable starts. It delivers excellent output performance at low frequencies, meets heavy-load starting demands, and imposes no restrictions on start times or frequency.
3. Using a one-drag-two automatic configuration ensures that if the frequency converter experiences a major fault, the load automatically switches to line-frequency power without stopping. This avoids full-line production shutdowns due to a single-point failure of the frequency converter, extends overall equipment life, and reduces unplanned downtime losses.
Application Advantages
After adopting the FD5000 series high-voltage frequency converter, the system demonstrates significant advantages during startup and operation:
1. It effectively solves the current surge problem during direct starting of high-power motors. The starting current stays within the rated current range, greatly reducing impact on the power grid and avoiding shutdown risks of other loads due to voltage drops.
2. The frequency converter soft-start method significantly lowers stress and wear on the motor and mechanical components. This extends the overall service life of the motor and fan while reducing maintenance frequency and costs.
3. In addition, the system’s high-precision vector control and power balancing functions ensure stable high-torque output even at low frequencies. It adapts to heavy-load starts and frequent start-stop conditions, improving the reliability and flexibility of the desulfurization system.
4. The one-drag-two automatic bypass and fault switching mechanism further enhances system fault tolerance. This maximizes production continuity, reduces economic losses from unplanned downtime, and comprehensively improves the energy efficiency and environmental benefits of the desulfurization system.
