In today’s coal mining industry, competition continues to intensify and environmental requirements grow stricter. How can coal preparation plants improve the performance of their belt conveyor systems to achieve efficient, safe, and energy-saving production?
At one overseas coal company’s coal preparation plant, multiple belt conveyor trestles form over 30 spans, with the longest single span reaching 46.5 meters. These trestles act as a key link in the coal washing process, enabling efficient and continuous transport that connects various production equipment and functional zones.
To ensure the belt conveyor system serves as an efficient and reliable "transport lifeline," the customer required frequency converters specifically optimized to drive "explosion-proof permanent magnet synchronous frequency conversion motors for mining use." These converters must offer excellent load impact resistance. The system also needs power redundancy capability so that in case one unit fails, full load output can still be maintained without affecting production.
Implementation Plan
Based on the customer's requirements, we selected the FD5000 series high-voltage frequency converter, model FD5000-6-400F-1A, to match the customer’s permanent magnet synchronous motor.
1.We adopted closed-loop vector control to ensure high-precision speed regulation and fast dynamic response.
2.The system physically protects the frequency converter through an automatic bypass cabinet. It also features master-slave synchronization and low-frequency compensation functions to achieve power balance and stable starting. Even under heavy-load conditions on semi-slopes, the system provides strong starting torque to prevent rollback and ensure safe, reliable operation. The equipment supports smooth low-speed crawling at 0.1 m/s, is easy to operate, and effectively reduces labor intensity.
We implemented a one-to-one automatic backup method. This approach ensures that if the frequency converter experiences a major fault, it automatically switches to power-frequency operation. The load continues running without stopping. This avoids production line shutdowns due to a single point of failure in the frequency converter, extends the overall equipment lifespan, and reduces losses from unplanned downtime.
