As coal mining technology advances, underground conveyor systems such as belt conveyors and scraper conveyors are gradually adopting high-voltage variable frequency drive solutions. However, traditional explosion-proof frequency converters face key limitations for widespread adoption. These include numerous power supply devices, large space requirements, and severe harmonic interference.
To address this industrial pain point, FGI innovatively launches China’s first 10kV/2×3.3kV mining combined high-voltage substation inverter, with a maximum power of 2×1600kW. This product greatly cuts down the number of devices and floor space, and effectively solves problems such as harmonic interference and long-distance power supply. Recently, this model has successfully put into operation in the permanent magnet direct drive belt conveyor system of a large coal mine in Inner Mongolia. Its highly integrated design offers an efficient and reliable solution for underground equipment layout, and marks a major breakthrough in China’s mining high-voltage frequency conversion field.
This coal mine has an approved annual production capacity of 8-10 million tons. At the head of its belt conveyor main roadway, it deploys four 3300V 630kW permanent magnet synchronous motors, adopting a side-by-side non-coaxial drive mode. The drive system equips with FGI’s newly developed explosion-proof high-voltage combined inverter. It accepts direct 10kV voltage input without a front-stage mobile transformer, outputs 2×3.3kV voltage and drives two motors at the same time. At present, the system runs stably in a high-reliability operation mode. It not only ensures continuous production, but also greatly improves system redundancy and maintenance convenience.
The product adopts multi-unit cascaded topology and combined structure design. Different from traditional solutions, it needs no front-stage mobile transformer for step-down and accepts direct 10kV high-voltage input. Its output side provides two independent 3.3kV variable frequency power supplies, and can drive two 3.3kV motors over a distance of up to 5000 meters.
The product has an advanced automatic unit redundancy function. If a power unit malfunctions during the inverter’s operation, the system still maintains redundant operation. This greatly ensures the continuity and stability of the drive system.
The FGI special control box for belt conveyors in the system solution is based on an independently developed master-slave control algorithm. It achieves high-precision power balance among all drive motors, with the unbalance rate stably controlled within 3%. This control box has flexible management functions. It can independently switch any inverter core, and seamlessly connect to the underground belt conveyor centralized control system and industrial ring network. It improves the overall automatic operation level of the system and guarantees safety and energy efficiency.
FGI’s new explosion-proof high-voltage combined substation inverter meets the variable frequency drive needs of various underground equipment, including belt conveyors, scraper conveyors, reloading conveyors and emulsion pumps. This model significantly reduces floor space and supports long-distance power supply up to 5000 meters, providing a diversified and high-performance drive solution for coal mining enterprises. It strongly promotes the comprehensive improvement of enterprises in safe production, green operation, cost reduction and efficiency increase, and also helps the intelligent construction of coal mines reach a new level.
